Open Day

September 28th, 2013

The History Group held an Open Day, the most ambitious event in the short History of the Group. On these four pages we describe the build-up to the event, the day itself and the aftermath.

In May, we learned that we had won a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. What had been planned as a small-scale event, depending on the enthusiasm and amateur skills of a small band of volunteers, became a full-blooded, Cecil B DeMille production. We could call on professional designers and printers to create our displays; we could hire period costumes for children to try; we could print as an illustrated booklet our guide to the village’s historic buildings.

More importantly, we could commission the equipment and digital systems necessary if we were to be able to index and archive the memorabilia which the Open Day was designed to attract.
