Farms and Farmers

These three photographs are by East Meon’s Chris Warren.

The village of East Meon sits under Park Hill, to the north of the beautiful Meon Valley. The South Downs define the other side, and farmers have over the centuries both provided the main source of income and employment for the village, and have acted as custodians for the countryside. In 2016, the History Group embarked on an ambitious project to research the history of Farming the Valley, from the late Iron Age to the 20th century, and the progress of this project will be recorded in the History Group section.

This section records, through a series of articles (many written for Meon Matters), aspects of the history of farming in the Valley.
