PC 1949

In 1949, the New York Sunday News sent a photographer to East Meon to capture the ‘idyllic’ life of a village policeman. The bobby was PC 543 Dennis Thorne, and he was photographed in a number of ‘typical’ situations in and around the village. In 2007, his son Martin Thorne discovered the photographs, which were featured in the Mail on Sunday, BBC South and elsewhere. A scan of the Mail on Sunday article is in the archive, click here.
